Celebrating Father’s Day 慶祝父親節

It’s Father’s Day in Australia! Here in Australia and New Zealand, we celebrate it on the third Sunday of September.

Father’s Day Around the World

Father’s Day is celebrated on different days in different countries. The most popular date for Father’s Day seems to be the third Sunday in June – Many Asian countries, including Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, China, Malaysia and Vietnam, follow USA, Canada, UK and observe Father’s Day on this date.

In Taiwan, Father’s Day is celebrated on 8 August as the Mandarin word for eight is ‘八ba’, which sounds like 爸 and 八八节  sounds like爸爸节. These words don’t sound the same in Cantonese though.
