Jesus Loves Me 耶穌愛我 is one of the most loved and most well-known of Christian hymns around the world, especially among young children. The lyrics of the hymn are simple, and yet the meaning is deep. The lyrics convey the essence of the gospel message of Jesus and how he loved us and died for us in a way that both adults and children can easily grasp.
This hymn has brought warmth and comfort to me in difficult times, and I was suddenly struck by the need to learn to sing it in Cantonese, and to teach my kiddo.
I found this beautiful Cantonese rendition on YouTube and transcribed the lyrics. They do differ a bit from the many mandarin versions of lyrics.

Background
Jesus Loves Me was written over 150 years ago by Anna Bartlett Warner as a poem for a dying child to bring comfort and peace, and was set to music in 1862 with added chorus by William Batchelder Bradbury. It has been translated to many languages, so if you speak other languages, you can do a google for the lyrics in those other languages too.

This is the only Cantonese Christian song I remember from my childhood and have been able to pass down to my toddler. I wished I remembered more! Have you had the chance to translate or learn any more Cantonese Christian songs? I vaguely remember some words of “Jesus Loves the Little Children”.

How do I say Jesus in Cantonese as an English speaker? It is hard from me to tell from the audio. I cannot find this anywhere on Google.
Hi Marie, the Chinese characters are 耶穌 and the romanisation is je4 sou1 (do note that if you are an English speaker, the j here sounds like the English y, so you can also read it as yèh sōu). I love Colin Buchanan too , but unfortunately I am not fluent enough to translate the song in a manner that dooes it justice.
